Elder = someone not to trust. Confidentiality with the elders is a joke. They are the biggest gossips!!!

WT web site now says to get professional help for psychological trauma/rape
by rebel8 in.
http://www.watchtower.org/library/g/2001/8/22/article_02.htm
of course they do their normal song and dance about spiritual help being more important, but still they do come out and state "consult with a competent health professional".

Superstitious JW Nonsense
by 95stormfront inone of my jw relatives was relating to me another one of their superstitious nonsense stories designed to demonize every damn thing that doesn't fall into an approved wt list.
she was telling me about a her friend, who upon cleaning a relatives house, found a voodoo doll with a prayer to demons written on paper that it took an hour to burn.
she also related to me how in the hour it took to burn the demon paper prayer, everyone around them getting sick and falling into convulsions.. i guess she was a little perturbed that i was .

Ever since I can remember I have been troubled by night terrors, "screaming and arousal from sleep, with no memory of a frightening dream except perhaps a frightening image." I haven't had one for several years, almost coinciding with the timing of our leaving close association with JWs. When I first moved away from home at age 19, one of my roommates had a dream that something was trying to kill me. Coincidentally, I had a night terror on that same night. We had the elders visit us and they convinced us that we had invited a demon into our home. So we threw out a bunch of stuff - a picture given to my roommate from a street musician, an Earth, Wind, and Fire album (because the cover had an Egyption symbol on the cover), and a few other things (too long ago to remember). They prayed for us, counseled us to watch our association, blah, blah, blah...
Rocky and I decided that the power of suggestion is extremely strong and the brainwashed JW mind is ripe to fester these demonic inspired ideas. BTW, my night terrors have decreased in number since leaving the WT organization and have not had one for at least 5 years.

Kingdom Melodies - Can they influence people's moods?
by truthseeker ini've recently begun to observe the mood-altering abilities of kingdom melodies, when played at meetings and assemblies.
after hyping up the audience for hours at a convention, a melody like, "we thank you jehovah" has the ability to make everyone all fuzzy and happy.
some even have tears in their eyes.. before a meeting, a kingdom melody is usually played quietly in the background, but it sets the mood.

I often wondered why the Society migrated away from live piano music to the recorded variety. I suspected that those of us who played the piano at the KH would put emotion into our playing, or add some sort of creative twist to the music, which was too close to displaying an "independent spirit". If the music is played from a recording, then the WT has control of the mood of the music. Of course, all of this was done under the guise of "unity of the brotherhood."
BTW - we attended a church in Wenatchee, WA. We were surprised to find a Kingdom Melody in their hymnal - We Thank You Jehovah. Don't know where they got it, who had it first, but were rather surprised because we thought JW songs were exclusive to JWs.

I was baptized at my local high school, which was several miles from the assembly site - pre-Assembly Hall days. My dad was baptized in a horse trough in Vancouver, BC on a rainy day, International Convention back in the 70's. We used to think it was so important to watch the baptism, even skipping lunch to be there.

The Twilight Zone...any fans?
by Preston ini am a huge fan of the twilight zone and i wondered if anyone on the board was a fan.
since the strangeness of the whole series mirrors my own jw life in some ways i found several episodes strangely fascinating.
interestingly my first experience watching it was in the reprised version of the series in the 80's and there was an episode where a shadowy figure lived under a kid's bed in return he would not hurt the owner until... and that's what i think made the series unique in how they added a twist that made every episode special, disturbing, or thought-provoking.

I can't remember then name of the episode, but there was one where Robert Redford was masquerading as a copy, telling an old woman that she had to move out of her building because it was going to be demolished. It turned out he was Mr. Death. There were quite a few episodes that dealt with that subject...another episode where an old man was obsessed with keeping his grandfather clock ticking. He thought he would die if the clock stopped ticking.

We have volumes 1-36 on DVD. Rocky has nick named our new little kitty Twilight Zone because she disappeared into the wall between the vanity and the bathtub the other night. We could hear her in the wall. She apparently has found the trap door where we access the plumbing for the shower. It was like she was in another dimension, much like the episode kls mentioned.

God says not to go in service....
by riotgirlpeeps inso this morning since my parents are both very devout witnesses i get a knock at my door, i'm supposed to go with.
i'm in my pajamas.
typical guilt trip and mention that ultimately it is my choice, more guilt tripping (last time i checked i was 26 closing in on 27 ironic isn't it how they still don't want to allow decision making).

Those guilt trips - so easy to buy that ticket! I feel for you.
My parents called us every Saturday morning, right about 9:30, for almost 15 years. "Hi, Why aren't you out in service?" It never occurred to me to ask them why they weren't out in service too.

How far did the elders expect......
by fairy inhow far did the elders expect someone to go in respects to being repentant

My friend's son was told that he would not be disfellowshipped only if he quit sports at school, resigned from FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), and gave up association with all the kids at school. He was a senior in high school and had gone to school with the same kids since 1st grade. This is a small town. It would be impossible! But this is what the lead elder on his JC told him was necessary for him to prove he was truly repentant.
